NLNG Limited, a Nigeria-based liquefied natural gas company, has recently joined the United Nations Environment Programme (UNEP)-coordinated Oil and Gas Methane Partnership (OGMP 2.0) to reduce methane emissions and improve reporting accuracy and transparency.
This move is a significant step towards NLNG’s commitment to decarbonisation, according to its Managing Director and CEO, Dr. Philip Mshelbila.
The company’s latest Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) with UNEP demonstrates its pledge to reduce methane emissions from its operations as part of its decarbonisation journey. NLNG will be reporting its methane emissions annually and implementing a phased reduction plan while maintaining its focus on decarbonisation.

The OGMP 2.0 is a renowned voluntary initiative for oil and gas companies globally to systematically reduce their methane emissions and demonstrate credible reductions to all stakeholders.
OGMP 2.0 covers 55% of Africa’s oil and gas production, with Nigeria being a significant producer of natural gas and one of Africa’s largest contributors to LNG production.
The OGMP 2.0 team welcomed NLNG’s membership and invited other companies in the sector to follow NLNG’s steps and join the partnership to mitigate 75% of all methane emissions from oil and gas companies in Africa.
